Ministry of Education Approves USTB to Construct “Engineering Research Center of Intelligent Supercomputing”
Release Time: 2019-11-21Views:
Recently, the Science and Technology Department of the Ministry of Education announced a list of 61 engineering research center construction projects, as part of a re-launch of the 2013 Engineering Research Center Project. USTB’s application to construct an “Engineering Research Center of Intelligent Supercomputing” was successfully approved.
Over the past five years, the “Engineering Research Center of Intelligent Supercomputing” team has won 24 awards at the provincial and ministerial level, and obtained 30 nationally authorized invention patents. In 2014 and 2015, it won the second prize of the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award. In 2018, it won the second prize of the Renowned Scientific Research Achievement Award in Higher Education. The construction of the “Engineering Research Center of Intelligent Supercomputing” aims to target challenging problems in the application in materials, metallurgy and energy fields, making use of Chinese advances in computing and intelligent technologies in order to accelerate innovation and the practical application of breakthroughs in research. It will focus on improving the process of attaining global patents and breaking through technical blockades, while promoting innovation-driven development through a joining of production, education and research. Given the current situation of increasingly fierce technological competition, monopolies and blockades, the construction of such an engineering research center is of sufficient necessity and urgency.
Supported by the Ministry of Education and USTB, the “Engineering Research Center of Intelligent Supercomputing” is determined to meet national strategic needs, intensify innovation, accelerate the application of scientific and technological achievements, cultivate innovative talents, and promote the internal development of related disciplines.
Like the key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, the Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education is also a significant part of the national university scientific and technological innovation system. It aims to promote cutting-edge science and technology in order to meet the needs of the economy and the nation as a whole. It acts as an important base for organizing engineering research and development, promoting the application of scientific and technological achievements, advancing the development of university discipline construction, cultivating and employing innovative talents, and carrying out international cooperation and exchanges.
