The Mining Branch of the Chinese Society for Metals(CSM)’s Seventh Committee Founding Meeting and the First Committee of the whole were successfully held in Beijing. Ms. ZHAO Jing, Deputy Secretary-General of the CSM, Prof. YANG Renshu, the President of USTB and Vice President of CMS, Prof. CAI Meifeng, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Professor of USTB, and Prof. WU Aixiang, the Vice President of USTB and Chairman of the Seventh Committee of the Mining Branch were invited to attend the meeting. More than 60 leaders, committee members and representatives from 42 committee units. Prof. YIN Shenghua and Prof. SONG Weidong, Dean and Associate Dean of the School of Civil and Resources Engineering, participated in the meeting. And the meeting was presided by Prof. WU Aixiang.
ZHAO Jing gave a speech firstly. She pointed out that mining plays an important role in the national economy and it is necessary to fully affirm the outstanding contribution made by the Mining Branch in promoting the mining discipline. She also put forward pertinent suggestions for the future work of the Branch and read out the approval of the new committee.
Prof. YANG Renshu was invited to give a speech. He congratulated the convening of the meeting and introduced the school’ s history and the advantages of mining disciplines. He pointed out that the school has made unremitting efforts and contributions in the school construction, discipline development, exchange and cooperation and talents cultivation. Finally, he expressed his wishes for the development plan of the Mining Branch.
In Prof. CAI Meifeng’ s speech, he thanked the members of the CSM and colleagues for their contributions to the development of the mining industry, reviewed the development history and outstanding achievements of the Mining Branch, and gave ardent expectations and valuable suggestions for the future development of the branch and the metal mining industry.
Prof. WU Aixiang gave a work report entitled“The Spring of Mining: Current Status and Future; Opportunities and Challenges”. Present Committee members carried out exchanges on the “New Mining Technology and the Development Plan of the School”, and the meeting hall was full of excitement and warmth.
