USTB Delegation Visits Colombia, Mexico and the United States

From October 23 to October 30, 2019, an exchange delegation, organized by the China Education Association for International Exchange, visited Colombia, Mexico and the United States. It was made up of eleven universities including the University of Science and Technology Beijing, Renmin University of China, China University of Political Science and Law, and Wuhan University. Vice President ZANG Yong participated on behalf of USTB.
The goals of the trip were to attend the Conference of the Americas on International Education, the third China-Mexico University Presidents Forum, and to visit colleges and universities in Colombia, Mexico and the United States.
The Conference of the Americas on International Education was held in Bogota, Colombia, from October 23 to 25. The theme was "Hubs of Knowledge and Innovation: Synergies for Development". Over a 1000 delegates attended the conference. During this period, the USTB delegation signed a memorandum of exchange and cooperation with Colombia's international education organization. During the conference, the Chinese delegation participated in the Expo of Higher Education to introduce Chinese universities to other conference participants. During the session reserved for Chinese universities, Vice President ZANG delivered a keynote speech. Taking USTB as an example, in the speech he discussed close cooperation between universities and industry in scientific and technological innovation.
The China-Mexico University Presidents Forum was held in Mexico City on October 28. The theme of the forum was ‘Education for the Future’. Mr. Zheng Fuzhi, Vice Minister of Education of China, Mr. ZHU Qingqiao, Ambassador of the Chinese Embassy in Mexico, the Vice Minister of Public Education and the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mexico attended the opening ceremony. At the forum, Vice President ZANG delivered a speech on the theme of "the Opportunities and Challenges of Higher Education in the Fourth Industrial Revolution". The speech described the characteristics of the fourth industrial revolution and the opportunities, challenges and coping strategies of universities for addressing new opportunities afforded by this technological revolution.
On October 30, the delegation went to California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, to attend the Sino-US University Presidents Forum. The theme of the Forum was “Learn by Doing" and “Student Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development”. Members also visited the Cal Poly Pomona laboratories. Mr. ZHANG Taiqing, Education Counsellor of the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles, was present to meet with delegation members.
In addition, the exchange delegation visited the Superior School of Public Administration(ESAP) and National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico on October 25 and 29, respectively.
Under the leadership of the China Education Association for International Exchange, the exchange delegation successfully completed its goals. The exchange delegation introduced the outstanding achievements of Chinese institutions of higher education to foreign universities, while further expressing the nation’s desire towards opening up education and strengthening its international exchanges. The delegation’s visit helped to strengthen ties between Chinese and American universities, paving the way for greater cooperation and understanding in future ventures.
