Health Kits from the Chinese Embassy Cheer up Confucius Institute during the Second Lockdown

The Chinese Embassy allocated 19 “health kits” to USTB-DMU Confucius Institute (the CI) not long after England implemented a four-week nationwide lockdown on November 5th.

Since the start of the second wave of the Covid-19 epidemic in England, the Chinese Embassy has continuously provided Chinese in the UK with prevention guidelines, legal support, psychological counseling to boost the awareness of overseas Chinese students, scholars and staff and to improve their ability of fighting against the pandemic. It has also been the priority of the Centre for Language Education and Cooperation to take care of the health and safety of the Mandarin teachers and volunteers in the UK.

It is well worth a mention that each of the ten local members of the CI Management Board also received their "health kits" together with their Chinese colleagues. The Management Board is a one-year old set-up for the CI. It is composed of 13 members, 10 of which are from various faculties, departments, centers and offices of DMU to help the CI with teaching, outreaching, and international cooperation. The Board members asked the CI to convey their appreciation to the Chinese Embassy for the "health kits". Marion, the program leader of Modern Foreign Languages, wrote in her email: “This is such a kind and supportive gesture. Please pass on my greetings and my sincere thanks to the Chinese Embassy and to CI director Dr Yang.”

The CI team would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to the Embassy for their constant support. Despite the current pandemic, they are more confident to unite as one to face the challenges for a better job teaching the Chinese language and sharing Chinese culture.
