On November 5th, Prof. Peter Moser, Rector of Montanuniversitaet Leoben (hereinafter referred to as Leoben), and his delegation visited USTB for exchange and discussion. The purpose of this visit was to deepen international cooperation between the two universities and jointly explore new opportunities for future development. Prof. YANG Renshu, President of USTB, Prof. LYU Zhaoping and Prof. WANG Luning, Vice Presidents of USTB attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Prof. LYU Zhaoping.

Prof. YANG Renshu delivered a speech
Prof. YANG Renshu introduced USTB's history and achievements in international cooperation. He mentioned that since 2015, USTB has maintained close relationships with Leoben and conducted in-depth cooperation in academic collaboration, scientific research, faculty visits, and student exchanges. In 2023, the two universities jointly launched a formed reciprocal visit program. USTB selected nearly 20 students from disciplines such as Mining Engineering to participate in international exchange and study programs, fully leveraging the disciplinary characteristics of Leoben. He expressed that in the future, USTB will further consolidate the strategic partnership between the two institutions and achieve new results in cooperative education and faculty team building.

Prof. Peter Moser presented an overview of the founding history, key disciplinary development plans, and distinctive talent cultivation features of Leoben. He noted that the two universities have already achieved certain accomplishments in student exchanges and scientific research cooperation. In the future, Leoben and USTB will jointly strive in the field of sustainable development and engage in international cooperation in education and research, contributing to research directions such as addressing global warming. He also emphasized that, to better facilitate international cooperation and exchange programs, reforms to the teaching model will be implemented in the future.
Both sides conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges on establishing a long-term mechanism, jointly cultivating graduate student, developing student degree programs, enhancing two-way teacher exchanges and interactions, and hosting international academic conferences. During the meeting, all participants freely expressed their opinions and views, collectively contributing their wisdom and strength to the cooperation and development of the two universities. Following the symposium, Prof. Moser and his delegation also visited USTB's University History Museum, the State Key Laboratory for Advanced Metals and Materials, National Materials Corrosion and Protection Data Center, and other institutions, gaining a deep understanding of USTB’s historical evolution, educational achievements, and research capacity.
The information session
Prof. Thomas Prohaska, Vice Rector of Leoben, conducted an information session on the Leoben's study abroad programs in the Conference room of the Corrosion Science Building. During the session, he introduced the latest research achievements and cooperation projects in the field of scientific research at his university, and engaged in interactive Q&A sessions with teachers and students present. Through the session, teachers and students gained a deep understanding of the university, laying a solid foundation for future talent exchange and academic cooperation between the two institutions.

This visit not only deepened the friendship and cooperation between the two universities but also injected new vitality and impetus into their joint development in the future. USTB will continue to adhere to the educational philosophy of "Rigorous Academic Atmosphere, Advocating Practice," and comprehensively promote the construction of three major internationalization initiatives ("Seed Project", "Amity Project", "Bridge Project") during the "Year of Internationalization," establishing a new pattern of high-level international exchanges and collaboration.
